This was an excellent show as usual, efficiently organised and run by Peter Trickett and his team of volunteers. The first section of pictures are of general interest and include photographs of the presentations by Chris Smith who opened the show. Click on the pictures to enlarge them. I only intend to comment in detail on the daffodil exhibits, but if you would like to comment on these pictures or on the show in general then please do so using the Comment facility at the bottom of this post.
There were six entries in the main collection class for six blooms from three divisions. The photograph only shows five as Barry Hogg sneaked in the sixth while I wasn’t looking. Alan Robinson won first with the set on the right, and was also second with the flowers second from the right. Wendy Akers was third with the six flowers in the middle.
Most of the flowers had seen duty the previous day at Leeds Paxton Society, with the absentees those shown by John Freer who undertook the judging duties here. The exhibitors who had shown the previous day were Wendy Akers, Mr and Mrs Kendall, Alan Robinson, Sue Vinden and Christine Yeardley. With the addition of Barry Hogg , D Shield and Ian Robinson they made up the bulk of the prizewinners in the Open section. In several cases, showing the consistency of the judging, the awards were the same as at Leeds, including Wendy Akers winning Best Bloom in show with ‘Ombersley’.
Photographs of most of the winners are shown below and a full list of all results can be seen here.
This show has been held in the village hall for many years now but I cannot remember the hall looking so clean and colourful. It was a credit to the community as well as the gardening club. The club is just one of the many events which make this a good place to live. As usual we were able to welcome growers from other regions. Thanks for coming.
