Sad News

I learned last night, of the recent death of Richard Brook.

Richard could only be described as eccentric. Never a great exhibitor, his main interest in daffodils was as a hybridiser and in some ways way ahead of his time. More than thirty years ago he was raising wonderful miniature cyclamineus hybrids including several reversed bicolours which unfortunately were never seen outside his garden near Wakefield in West Yorkshire. He will however be remembered for one flower which did escape, his only registration, Tripartite (April Tears x Baccarat) which caused a minor sensation when it was registered in 1980. It is still successfully shown today, and has received both an RHS AGM and Wister Award.

Richard never married. The funeral will be held on 8 May.

  1. Richard enjoyed Daffodils in his own special way. Always happy to engage in Daffodil talk he certainly left his mark. Tripartite will be a lasting legacy that will be enjoyed for many years to come.
