Final touches to the entries on Tuesday morning
'The long arm of the law' The five wise men/women Best Bloom team Nial Watson, Reg Nicholl,Jackie Petherbridge, John Blanchard (hidden behind Jackie) and Melissa Reading

A large marquee was a welcome innovation for the main RHS Daffodil Show and gave the stagers plenty of room in the Hillside Events Centre, the only hazard was carrying them across to the benches in the marquee and coping with the gusty winds. The mighty Engleheart had three entries, all of excellent quality. Apart from Hyperbole all Brian Duncan’s winning twelve flowers were numbered seedlings and his pursuit of colour was evident in the well contrasted cups, but my favourite was the immaculate all yellow flower 2713, seen at the lower right in the photograph. John Gibson goes from strength to strength and has many new things in the pipeline to go with the impressive ones he has named so far. I thought Noel Burr’s third placed twelve were possibly the best set he’d staged.
