Elsecar, Hoyland and District – 10 April

information and photographs : Chris Bone
This was their 15th Annual Spring show with 16 exhibitors in 38 classes with 240 blooms

Some top quality blooms from some of the best growers in the North of England. There were three very good entries in the new 12 bloom class won by Barry Hogg with Ken Bacon and Christine Yeardley both very close in second and third.

The best bloom went to Ken Bacon with a very nice bloom of ‘Cherrygardens’ which had very good colour.

The Best Exhibit in show was Barry Hogg’s twelve bloom collection entry.

There were also some very good vases of three with a good vase of ‘Empress of Ireland’ and also the vase of one bloom each from divisions 1, 2 and 3, the flowers were ‘Ombersley, ‘Banker’ and ‘Loth Lorien’. ‘Banker’ with its correct colour combination, but unfortunately looking to the heavens perhaps saying yes I have got the colour right for once.

There was a new exhibitor Mr R Lister but unfortunately one from my generation, but welcome nevertheless. Where are all the young ones?
