Northern Group Late Meeting and Bulb Auction

Don’t miss this weekend’s meeting at Pilley. We’ve had donated some exciting bulbs from our kind sponsors (Ron Scamp of Quality Bulbs, Cornwall, Frank Charlton of Choice Bulbs, Johhny Walkers of Spalding, John Gibson from Northampton, Jan Pennings of the Netherlands and Rae Beckwith from Gateshead), which include several new introductions and a number of miniature and intermediate cultivars. The list is not yet complete, but click here to see what we have so far.

Our Group is probably unique in the horticultural world in that we hold two meetings, have two shows annually plus having an active role in the organisation of the Harrogate Spring Daffodil Show and yet charge no subscription to our members. We are able to do this partly from the income received at this auction and through the efforts of members, particularly John Freer, to put on Daffodil Society Northern Group displays at several horticultural events during the year.

Below are photographs of our two most recent displays, at Durham and the Harrogate Autumn show where on both occasions we received Gold Medal Awards. These brought our income from such events during the year to over £700.

  4. Further to my previous comments regarding the Bulb Auction can i say how successful the day turned out to be. A big thank you must go to all those who were so kind with the very generous bulb donations. The money raised will allow us to invest in additional promotional material to be used in our displays at shows during the coming years.
At Harrogate Show this year it was mentioned by many just how big a miss the Tulip Section was. Well i am happy to report that Tulip classes will return to Harrogate for 2015 with our help.
    Kind regards.
    Rae.
